LOST RETURNS

Finally! After 4 long weeks, LOST returns tomorrow!

I have taken to listening to LOST podcasts, and there are a lot of them, throughout my entire work day. This is bad. I'm afraid I am going down the "LOSTexperience" road again, and we all know that is not a good thing! OBSESSED! This is especially dangerous seeing that this fixation has resurfaced when there is literally NO NEW INFORMATION to talk about. AHHHHHHHH. Hopefully the return of life will fill this void and I will be able to get some work done!

SuLu Designs

While browsing Etsy at work this afternoon, I came across this cute necklace by SuLu designs. I think this would be the perfect complement to my 'soon to be beach tan' in Cyprus. I love the red resin bead, so simple yet so wonderfully unique.

Sue Lieu is an Oregon transplant from NYC, who handcrafts this affordable, wearable art herself. Many of her pieces are sold in boutiques, but lucky for me she has a great collection online as well. Etsy is a great online shopping tool that helps local artist get their products shown and out to the people

Rilo Kiley

Caught the Rilo Kiley show at the Showbox SoDo last night- AMAZING. It has been a while since I was really wowed by a performance, but Rilo Kiley was rad rad rad! I have always loved their albums, but had never seen them live in concert. I find that many of these 'pop-indie' bands sound fine in studio, but tend to disappoint a little live. Not the case with Rilo Kiley. Jenny Lewis's voice is even more lovely in person, and all the musicians are very very talented playing multiple instruments throughout the show. The vocal harmonies were tight, the added trumpet was a great accent, and the audience was captivated from the start of the show through the encore. I was also impressed with the SoDo sound mix, for once the vocals were NOT overshadowed by loud guitars, rather all the sounds completmented eachother and came together.

When they come back to Seattle I will be first in line!

This Saturday my Dad, Alex and I went down to the Skansonia Ferry Boat reception venue where my sister Francie is getting married this July. Since she resides in Ireland, it was up to us to taste all the catered food and decide our favorites! NOT a hard job, haha.
After the tasting we all met up with my mom at the Egyptian Theater for a matinee showing of Young at Heart, a fantastic movie about a senior citizen's chorus that performs rock songs. It's really really funny, sweet, and sad in parts. A great movie, I would recommend it to everyone.

A week and three days . . . .

I stare out my window at work and watch the rain beat down on the street, the poor people waiting for the bus in this dreary weather. Why is the Ballard leaf blowing man out on a day like today? Leaf blowing in the rain? Makes now sense. And it's so loud! He has been blowing those damn leaves all morning and its NOT MAKING A DIFFERENCE. Now it's hailing.

I am dreaming of warm air and the sunshiny beaches of Cyprus. Soon I will be wearing tank tops and sun dresses . . . soon.

KICKBALL!

GAME 2 TONIGHT!!

My friends and I recently joined together to form a kickball team for the Underdog Sports league. I feel as though I have time traveled back to the fifth grade when my class took on Mr. Burke's class in the school championship game! Such fun! We play once a week, 7 innings or 45 min. (whatever comes first). Other then that the rules are basically the same, with the added "no man-bunting rule" : )

Hopefully we will do a bit better against "The A-Team" then we did in our first match . . . or not, the great thing about kickball is it doesn't really matter who wins! We care more about our cute baby blue socks (thanks to Michelle) and our team snacks :)

The Dali Yoda

Maholla my enlightened peeps!



This weekend my lovely friend Corrie invited me to attend the Seeds of Compassion event at Qwest field in which the Dali Lama was speaking! We, about 18 of us, sat in one of the skyboxes and listened while the Dali Lama spoke about world events, environmental issues, and touched on current happenings surrounding, and how compassion plays into these and other aspects of our lives.

I was amazed by his Holiness's ability to truly look at the big, worldly picture when speaking towards problems affecting us. When asked about China, he responded that throughout the world there have been many instances of oppression, both in our past and currently, but overall we as a people ARE becoming more compassionate, and that gives hope for our future. China is a problem we are working through together for our future selves, but there are bigger issues- such as Global Warming and Over Population that will effect how our planet sustains for eternity, and it is those problems which trouble him most.

I was also amazed by how much he sounded like YODA! Honestly, it was super cool!

Thanks again to Corrie and her wonderful mom for inviting me along, what a fun way to spend a 79 degree day!!

Cathodox

Maholla Peeps! (get it-PEEPS-hahahaha)



What do you get when you combine a Catholic girl who hunts eggs and a Greek dude who roasts lamb? CATHODOX!!! Michelle and Kostas hosted us all on Saturday night for the first annual Cathodox dinner and celebration (that's Catholic Easter and Orthodox Easter for those of you who haven't figured it out-ha ha)



Everyone brought their favorite easterish dish to share, and we cooked ourselves up quite a feast! Kostas's mom was in town from London, Canada, and she made us a traditional Greek dish of beef and rice stuffed peppers, yum yum yummy!

Through out the night there was lots of eating, wine drinking, jumping on Kostas and Justin's new giant bean bags, and of course, Rock Band! Look at Andy singing lead- with a martini glass in his hand- what a super star!

I ended up walking home fairly early in the night do to a wave of fatigue that just wouldn't go away (no matter how much of that crazy "Kostas coffee" I drank), but I hear the beanbag jumping was taken to a new level after I left, hopefully someone has photos of that!

Thanks Michelle and Kostas! What a great new tradition!

Mahollaaaaaa yawn people

I am SO tired this Friday morning. I had a lovely 7:30am meeting with the Phinney Ridge - Greenwood Chamber of Commerce this morning, and I did not have time to grab a coffee on my way! I am sitting here with my grande americano (finally) as I type- thank god for the Starbucks below my building! Drip that caffeine into my veins-haha!

Work has been busy busy this week- The Ballard News Tribune had an open house Wednesday night which went really well, but took up a lot of time. Needless to say, with late nights and early mornings spent at work, I welcome the weekend with open arms!

Tonight I am meeting up with Corrie and Meagan for happy hour at Vons, which will be great fun. I haven't seen them in a month or so, and we need to catch up! Corrie also got me a ticket to see the Dali Llama next weekend, so maybe he can bring some calm to my stressed schedule :)

Saturday night Michelle and Kostas are hosting a Cathodox Easter dinner (half way between the Catholic and Greek Orthodox Easters) which will be great! Rumor has it there may be lamb . . . . yum!
